3 and 4 legged bed bugs

So a few nights ago Ori slept in her crate for the first time in over a week...Let's just say she wasn't very happy with that.  The next morning when Nick took the girls out to pee (as is the typical routine) she bolted back and jumped up into the bed not once but twice before Nick wrangled her down the hall and outside.  After that she snuggled up in bed so tight and didn't want to get up for breakfast.  She did get down and eat breakfast but she proceeded to jump right back into bed (on my side mind you) while I got ready for work and while Moo and I spent some time on the couch.  It wasn't until almost 9:45 that she decided to join us in the living room.   My little brat....she now expects to sleep in bed?  My my....it's a rough life.

Moo must be catching on to Ori's ways as last night she basically refused to get off the bed (complete with playing dead dog, running away and snuggling up on my pillow....) Silly girl!

Oh it makes my heart smile to see Ori seek comfy places to sleep.  This was the same dog who, just under a year ago, didn't know what carpet was or toys or play time....She's come so far.  I also love that Moo is seeking out soft places to sleep and snuggling in bed.  The 2 of them press in so tight against me.  Nick calls them my "pile of Bostons."  I love it!

Bed Time Routine

We do our best to maintain some semblance of routine around here.  Ori is doing better in so many regards that we can flex that routine around and she is fine (aka: no accidents!)  Evening routine though is pretty standard-- except for 2 nights ago!

Nick took the girls out for bed time potty then came it to give them their bed time snack.  At that point O boogies down the hall and usually jumps up into our bed as if she is staying the entire night.  Molly hangs around the kitchen in hopes of another turkey meatball.  2 nights ago Nick watched Ori run down the hall and take a right towards the crates instead of jumping up into bed.  When we get back to bed, Ori has stolen the crate that Molly usually climbs into to sleep.  Molly goes to go to sleep and is stopped in her tracks.  She looks up at Nick as if to say "hey dad, the brat's in my crate, help me out here!"  She then wandered around the room and kept returning to the crate O was laying in 3 or 4 times.  Ori definitely wasn't moving and Moo didn't know what to do as her routine was now messed up!  At 1 point it looked like Molly was ready to step over Ori into the crate but she decided against it.  Molly finally decided she was jumping up into our bed for some rest since O had stolen her sleeping quarters.  It was a Saturday night so she got to stay!  Moo snuggled up against me and was a good girl all night long!

Ori slept in the crate until 2am (with door hanging wide open!) when Nick got up to use the bathroom.  She jumped up into in his spot and surprised him upon his return : )  2  snuggly little doggies in bed helped me to be 1 happy little girl!

So yeah- for those who think crate training is mean and cruel- I beg you to argue with my 2 who will steal the others crate at night for sleep!  They practically kick me out of the house in the morning to get their kongs and they sleep peacefully all night long in them as needed!  The crates are definitely their dens and they don't mind them at all : )  Of course we always seem to get the best little dogs in the entire world, so maybe that's it!  Regardless, Nick and I had a fabulous laugh at the 2 of them Saturday evening!

Dreamin' Dogs

I don't know if dogs dream or not, but Ori definitely made a case in favor of doggy dreams last night!  We've been working on Ori sleeping on her bed next to our bed instead of in a crate since Friday.  She's doing fabulous actually after our initial hesitation.  So last night she's sleeping on her bed and we hear her start barking.  Is wasn't her usual loud-mouthed variety,  but rather a more muffled, almost 3 Stooges kind of noise!  She was barking in her sleep!  This went on for a minute or so, then a pause and then more barking until she faded back into her snoring pattern.  Nick and I laughed so hard at Miss O and her yappy mouth!  We joked that she was dreaming about the ducks that have been around the apartments.  She so desperately wants to play with (or destuff) them lately!  She's even started tracking the ones in the sky hoping to get them up there!

I've been lobbying for another bed for the girls (ha, cause we don't have enough in this house right?) for a while now and just last night, Nick agreed that another bed makes sense.  We're hoping to move the crates to the middle room where the girls will stay when we're gone and then have 2 beds in the bedroom where they can both sleep at night.  Molly's been sleeping in a crate with the door open for a few days and seems to be doing pretty well with it. (We tried giving her the option to sleep in the bed next to our bed, but she's been fussy and has been choosing the crate over the bed.  I can't keep up with her!)  So now I get to figure out what kind of bed I think the girls will like.  You know how it's going to go though, both girls will want the new bed no matter what.  Ha!  My little kids, how I love you so!

Both girls had a marrow bone to chew on yesterday afternoon.  I haven't given them out in a long time because we've been dealing with Molly's fussy digestive system.  Since the switch to Dr. Harvey's food, Moo's been consistently consistent in a very positive way so we gave it a try.  Ori chewed on the bone for hours!!!  Molly enjoyed hers immensely as well and so far so good with everything else!  Ori chews her bone gated in the kitchen and Molly stays on a towel in the dining room so there aren't any issues.  Later in the evening the girls had fun stealing the bones from each other because obviously the other bone tastes way better than the one she has!

All in all a pretty wonderful weekend for the girls I'd say : )  Here's to a fabulous week of little rain and lots of walks, playing, and naps!

Little Molly Moo Moo

One of the songs we use to sing as a kid was "Little Bunny Foo Foo" (hoping through the forest, picking up the field mice and bopping on the head.) Well I've adapted the words for Miss Molly. I have a few variations, but i'll share the most common ones we sing:

Little Molly Moo Moo
is waddling through the forest
eating people's snack foods
and peeing on their lawns

or

Little Molly Moo Moo
waddling down the hall way
looking for a tasty treat
then snuggling on the couch

Moo or Moomoo has been established as Molly's nick name around here. It's fitting with her appetite, and it's fun to say : )

She has the worst sense of direction though. She gets turned around in the apt complex hallway and can't seem to remember which door is ours (even thought its the only one with a door mat.) We joke that Tink has a better sense of direction which isn't too far from the truth. Tink certainly knows which apartment building is ours and her way around things much better that Moo. It's funny cause we'll be holding the door open to come into the building and she is standing by a neighbor's door. So we laugh and say, "why don't we use this door Moo, it's open."

Molly share's Tink's affinity for warm and soft blankets. She has discovered my down comforter throw and she loves to lay on that on the couch. Since we've graduated to a 2 dog house, I think we're going to need a bigger couch. The love seat is perfect for 2 plus Tink, now with Molly, we get rather creative with seating options. And if Molly doesn't think there's enough room, she just sits there looking at us, until we move Tink or create some more space. Tink has been observed to use Molly's back as a head rest or snuggling up tight to fit us all in. Ha, realistically, we'll just sit nice and comfy with the 4 of us under some covers watching a movie : )

Molly's appetite seems to be stabilizing a little bit. She's been going out to pee and then without hesitation she joins the 3 of us in bed. This weekend we had a good 30 min to an hour both on sat and sunday morning with the 4 of us all cozy. I'm in heaven in the morning like that : )

Anyways, it's been fun yet fairly low key in our house with the 4 of us. Tink's doing pretty well with Molly and Molly is thriving here. Even her weight and shape looks so much better! Tink's back end was really weak this evening as I watched her try to nest or walk a bit. I'm not sure what's up with that but we will certainly be keeping an eye on her. She seems to walk fine in the morning and evening, but certain times after her evening walk, she can be a bit unsteady in the house. And she's certainly unsteady before she completely wakes up in the morning. Aside from that issue, Tink's been eating pretty well, walking well, and my little snuggle queen!

Oh our little doggie retirement home makes me smile!

Tinker & Molly

So Miss Tink has been doing fabulous lately (minus a few "accidents" in the house!) She's been alert, walking well, good appetite and looking good! Miss Molly has been showing more and more of her personality. She has been sleeping on a bed in our bedroom at night rather than in her crate and she is loving it (and doing very well!) We realized that she likes to sleep under a blanket so i've been tucking her in at night too : ) It's definitely cute and she looks so comfy. She usually makes it to about 6:30 am before she's gotta go potty. At that point she looks at Nick with a small whimper and he take her out. She then jumps into bed and if we're lucky, we all sleep for another hour snuggled up together ; )

We just finished reading through the BT Happy Tails book and the last few nights we had both of the dogs in bed for our bed time story. It makes me smile so much to have 2 bostons in our bed as we read some amazing rescue stories! Unfortunately for Molly, after the story is over, she has to sleep in her own bed (blame Nick for that...something about not having any room to sleep. Whatever!)

Molly has learned that Tinker leaves food in her kong and usually in her crate and she makes it her mission to clean it all out to the point that she rushes outside to get back in (which can be annoying quite honestly!) So, I've been making sure she doesn't get a hold of Tink's kong or get in her crate in an effort to stop the 1 way track mind.

After having her here for almost 2.5 weeks, I'm wondering if her meds do need to be upped at some point. She acts a bit more hungry than I would like to see... we'll definitely see what the holistic vet says next friday before we do anything of course.

Right now I have a BT on either side of me on the couch! One of my favorite ways to take a break! We're getting ready for another weekend at the cabin this weekend....should be a blast!

Happy Birthday & Snuggly Pics

HAPPY 11TH BIRTHDAY MISS MOLLY! Here are some snuggle pictures to celebrate!

Tink & Molly were clearly hard at work while I was busy at class today. Here are some pics of them sharing a bed...ahem, almost snuggling over at Matt & Amanda's while they were visiting today! Pictures courtesy of Nick!

Awwwww

2 sleepy peas in a pod

Mollly hogging the bed (Hey, it's her b-day, right?)

Tink, can you really sleep like that?

This little girls are so good together... apparently Molly doesn't like other dogs very much (I apologize Alie and Plato!) I'm hoping in time we can work through some of those issues.... but one step at a time.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOLLY!!!

Where in the World is Tinker Bell?

She nearly gave me a heart attack last night as I was looking for her before bed time. I looked every where in the house and was trying to consider how she possible could have gotten outside of the apartment when Nick found her...

Can you find her in the above picture?

Yup, she totally decided to use my 1/2 unpacked bag as a comfy bed

After the initial relief of finding her, Nick & I laughed hysterically

She didn't want to get up either. Complete dead weight

Completely comfortable.
Finding her here made my whole evening last night!

Tinker Loves her Mommy!

So I had the privilege of joining 70 5th graders on their summer Survivor Camp experience. It was an absolute blast! Tink however, didn't appreciate that I left her with her Daddy for 2.5 days (and a transport dog that spent 2 nights here, but that's another story!)

Nick came to pick me up at the church sunday evening and brought the little Stinker along with him. She was so content to let me hold her in my arms : ) She glued herself to me the rest of the night. Bedtime came around and she refused to settle on her bed. I didn't even get her all the way on the bed and she was down glued to my side ALL NIGHT LONG! She didn't move from me. We had the best night sleep in such a long while! She was just making sure that I wasn't going any where!

On another positive note, Tink continues to do very well. We've been feeding Tink mostly a homemade diet which she loves; in addition, her calcium and her Kidney supplement came last week. We've been adding them slowly to her diet but they appear to be helping as we've had no accidents in the house in the past 4 days or so and she is making it through the night with much more regularity! She is doing so well and seems happy too. Now if we could just get rid of some of this humidity she would be even more thrilled as walks are pretty torturous even to the dumpster and back.

It's sooo good to be home with my Nicholas and of course with my little Tinker too.

Thoughts

So we won't have the results of the creatinine/cortisol test until early next week which leaves us waiting for a few days...

Tink had a very nice day yesterday. She was alert and very ready and willing to walk both in the morning and in the evening. We had some nice snuggle and treat time (and some teeth brushing thrown in for good measure.) Nick is really making sure that she gets LOTS of treats and as a result, we're gonna have to cut Tink's kibble just a hair... She is thoroughly enjoying the extra spoiling. Which reminds me, on our grocery shopping excursions this weekend, I'd like to pick up the necessary fixins' for some meatloaf for the little one.

Tink was slightly less active today than yesterday and didn't want to walk this evening. She walked ok this morning though. I want to make sure that when we walk, there is plenty of time for her to sniff and take our time enjoying being outside.

We realized a day or so ago, that in the middle of the night when Tink gets up and then doesn't settle in bed (resulting in a long night of walking up every 30 min or so) that she really needs to pee. So we've been getting up in the wee (ha, pun intended) hours of the morning to give her a potty break.

I also realized (apparently Nick has known for a while...) that the beautiful bed that I made Tink a while ago now, is not her favorite. She nests on all the other beds in the house and seeks them out (up to several times) after being placed on the bed in the back for the night. So last night we came up with the bright idea of putting one of her favorite nesting beds and on top of the other bed...wouldn't ya know! It combined the best of both worlds, softness AND a head rest. Heaven here on earth : ) We compared it to a pillow top mattress : ) She settled right down and slept until 4am this morning (as opposed to 12:30-1am.)

I want to keep these posts as upbeat yet as honest as possible. She's currently sleeping here right nex to me all warm and snuggly : ) We're watching one of Nick's favorites America's Funniest Videos. Unfortunately Tinker doesn't appreciate the humor quite the same way he does. We could hear him laughing all the way down the stairs on Tink's last potty break; we just shook our heads and smiled.

Ha, ok so now i'm just rambling about randomness... And we're soon off to sleepy time....here's to a fun filled weekend and some good news on the other side...

Chicken Leg Tinker....

So apparently Tinker was too tired to make it all the way onto her bed....

Ready to run or something?

Mommy, I hear you taking pictures...stop it!

Isn't she so stinkin' cute?!?!

Wednesday Morning

Parker slept through the night quietly after the dishwasher stopped running. Nick, Tink and I actually just sat in the kitchen area quietly with him for the last 10 min or so of the cycle. His barking sounding differently and he was panicking when we weren't in the room. Frankly, I didn't blame him. So quietly and calmly we stayed in the kitchen. But as soon as we stopped the dishwasher and left, he barked for a little bit and then we heard no more than an occasionally whine until we took him out at 7:30 this morning.

Per Amy's recommendation we started giving him some rescue remedy which I do feel is helping a little bit. He walks on a loose leash after the initial 10 minutes or so, his poops are looking better, his whole body goes in the crate now while we feed him (I even latched the door this morning until he was done,) and he let me spray him with neem oil last night : ) He still barks like a mad man when Tink is wandering around outside the gate. He is very interested in other dogs while we're walking. He has a long neck and usually its down and relaxed while walking, but when he sees something and is interested, he pulls his monstrous head and neck up tall like a giraffe or sea monster or something! Still not sure if I want to place him with someone with another dog or not. I think he would be ok with time. He's not vicious, I just don't know if he would ever leave the other dog alone.... Of course when the right app comes in we'll just know it : )

Tink looks like a little sausage compared to Parker's lean body. I do need to cut her back just a hair. I joke and tell her that I'm going to give her rations to Parker and she usually sniffs or snorts appropriately and then I have to apologize and say "you're right, that would be mean." But I still say it.

Someone is getting a lot of exercise out of this deal...Parker gets a good amount and Tink's been going on longer and of course they don't go together.... so Nick or I get double duty if the other isn't around. This morning it's me! almost a full hour of walking. Which is nice as the weather is beautiful.

And it's getting late and I need to run. I took pics yesterday and will post them later this evening

HAPPY GOTCHA DAY!!!

Ok, so yesterday marked our 3 year anniversary with the one and only Tinker! 3 years of love, fun and adventure! She received a gift card to petsmart from her generous friends Plato and Allie for Christmas... we may have to go shopping this weekend with her!!!

Funny and cute story about the little one in honor of her special day:
Yesterday evening after she had her last snack of the night (yummy raw treats!), we went back to bed as usual. Nick and I spent some time scratching and rubbing her little body and after we were done she boogied back down the hall. Of course we followed to see what the hurry was. Sure enough she went back to her bowl and rang it as she is accustomed to doing so when she wants a snack. We laughed and well knowing what I was reinforcing I gave her a little biscuit for being so cute and persistent. No sooner had she swallowed her treat when she boogied back down the hall to her bed. She knows what she wants and how to get it that's for sure!

We didn't have any cake or parties this year to celebrate, but we're learning that each day is a celebration in and of itself. A celebration of life, love, and family and of a cute little Boston name Tinker---my heart dog.

Happy Gotcha day and 12th Birthday Little One. Here's to many many more happy and healthy years to come!

Sleeping Beauty....

This is where Tink usually ends up in the mornings before we go to work.

Sometimes, she leaves me some covers.

And when she's ready to go out, she leisurely gets up and stretches and sits nice and pretty.
Of course, I have no photographic evidence of that one,
you're just gonna have to take my word for it!

I woke up at 1230am and...

....there was a dog in our bed.
fortunately, says nick, it was ours.

I don't know how she manages to do it, but she finds her way in bed probably 4 days out of the week. Last night however, i don't remember picking her up to put her in bed....it's so automatic i don't wake up any more!

Fortunately for all of us, we've adapted and we 2 humans can sleep with her little but huge body in bed with us.

One of my favorite things ever is indeed to snuggle with her, so it all works out!

In other news, we are all ready to make the trip to MA!!! Tinker is ready to be spoiled and to pick on stretch and Nick and i are ready for a few days off work!!!

We've switched Tink over completely now to nature's variety and i must say, i think it's a great change. She gets a raw medallion each night as a snack and the kibble with other tasty treats at meal time. Now she almost demands the medallion before bed and scarfs it down! Her weight is great, her coat is sooo glossy, she's acting great, her poop is perfect, life is good.

We have a play date with Otis and Liza in CT on our way back from MA, so we will have TONS of pictures from that at the very least!!!! Looks like a great weekend ahead!

misc. sleeping shots

Tink has taken to sleeping as close to me as possible in bed, this particular night she was sleeping between my legs (on the down comforter of course... her bedding of choice). She was just so cute and comfy looking, i couldn't resist snapping a few shots.

Another night, not too long ago she was in a dead sleep, so naturally, as inquisitive parents, Nick and I wondered just HOW deep a sleep she was in. So we placed 2 of her favorite treats in front of her nose, the home-made liver and her Zuke Hip action treats right in front of her nose... it took her about a minute, but man was she up!!! She ate them up and then she was all over the bed looking for more : ) oh the things we do to amuse ourselves : ) (the first pic only has the zuke; the second pic has the liver treat stacked on top--- i think it was the liver that woke her up : )

Look at me sleep : )

Mum says i'm like grandpa Thomes in that I can sleep anywhere! so here is my proof! love ya Grandpa!

"Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy....."

Dad, can't i sleep in peace pleaz?

I discovered the pillows on the couch and I must say, I approve

I just needed a quiet spot to relax yesterday and this looked as good as any

Relaxing with my Daddy on father's day. His belly is soft and comfy : )

Mum says we're heading up to visit grandpa and granna in Massachuuseeettts : ) I'm excited!! No leash cause they have fenced in yards, a pond to swim in, aunts and uncles to harrass, grandpa's lap to sleep on and lots of walks. Mum also says her a/c is getting fixed in her car so i can have a comfy ride : ) I don't know what a/c is, but i'm taking her word for it.

It's been rainy here lately and i've got myself in bed TWO times in the past week! I'm such a smart little girl. Mum and I had an easy saturday, we got up early to deliver food to friends in Ephrata but then we took a nice LONG nap in the afternoon and then plato and his parents came over for another visit. And now i'm watching a movie through my eyelid with my daddy, another trait mum says i get from grandpa.
