The Smart Tinker

So last night Nick took Tinker out for last pee call of the night... she peed and came in and then peed just a tiny bit in front of the kitchen... well i'm blow drying my hair in the bathroom and nick comes in a few minutes later: "Ahh, Tinker peed on the floor."
So i reply take her out!
She just went out-- He said
Take her out again! she peed on the floor!

So a few minutes later he comes back in, "did she pee?" I ask. "No, she pooped." Nick stated matter of factly.

And so i stand there raving about what a smart dog we have because she knew that was how she could get back outside and blah blah blah... and Nick replies, "if she was that smart, she would have stood by the door." and I stopped, speechless.

Haha, well in any case, she is a smart dog and that was the first "accident" since we moved in.

She's really liking the walks in this neighborhood and i must admit, i am too. Just can't get enough of her....

Mommy's turn to be sick

aren't i cute?!?!? How could you not love my beautiful face!?!

ok, it's Tinker here. Mom and Dad can't seem to get their act together with updating the world with how i'm doing. So i gotta take things into my own paws.
Yesterday and today have been great... Mom's been home sick with strep, whatever the heck that is.. she says i can't get it because i'm on enough meds for a small elephant with this foot infection still. She's on meds now too. but anyways, its been really nice having her around all day... we stayed in bed until 10 this morning. About that time i wanted a really long belly rub : ) which of course she gave me being the favorite dogter and all.

Well lets see.... I'm pretty good with getting around the new apartment. They thought they could trick me by moving, but i'm too smart for that. I get to all the rooms with ease. I especially know how to book it down the hallway to my bed when i know they're trying to get ready to leave soon. Only the house changed, not the people (not even the furniture..is that legal?) so its pretty easy to go along with it... of course, i don't mind the extra pampering and treats and snuggle times either....

I thought with mom being sick i would be safe from a bath, but nooooooo. A bunch of natural stuff for me came and she decided i needed to be safe from fleas and ticks yesterday. She shampooed me and I got conditioner and then this spray stuff.... I kinda stink but daddy says he likes it. But it won't hurt me, just the fleas. So thats nice.

I used to bark alot when mom and dad leave me, but they put me in the office and i settle down most of the times now.... i'm learning that they're coming back and so i sit and wait : )

OH oH! Mom got me a Zuke treat!! (its like a greenie but no wheat, corn or icky cellulose that doesn't digest) It takes pretty yummy, but i was easily distracted last night... mom said i had some ADD whatever that is... there was so much going on while daddy cleaned what was i supposed to do???

Hee hee.... mommy's feeling a little better today, but she still gets to stay home so she doesn't infect anyone else. Mommy also says that I'm so cute! she thinks my expression in front of the camera has changed since i came to be part of the family... I say of course! i have a family!

Oh and my foot is doing better, its just taking a while to get rid of all the 'fection. but i get cheese every night!!!

Tinker Update

It's been a while i know, and we start moving today, but i just wanted to update the world on Tinker. We did have her checked for UTI a while back and it came back negative. So nothing to worry about there. (You should have seen us collecting a sample!! ha!)

I took her to the vet yesterday however because she has a cut (it looks like a growth) on her right back foot between her pads... I noticed it tues and cleaned it and soaked it and everything, but decided it needed vet attention. Good thing, the cut is healing, but her foot is infected. So the vet put her on some meds to clear it up. This vet really likes Bostons. He's a older gentleman and he just thought she was so well behaved (which she is). He told me like 10 times "if you don't like the look of that foot in 1 week i expect her back in my office, you hear me?" Hehe, he was cute. And it was good for her to be seen by the vet that we are going to be using. She flinched when he touched her pad and he said, "she doesn't strike me as a wimp, that must really hurt." So, basically, i am so relieved that we took her over there... and thankfully this vet doesn't charge an arm and a leg for visits and meds.

Well, i'm heading over to the new apt today with some stuff, and tinker to get the keys and possibly contact paper the cabinets....
This dog is so wonderful, she even takes the meds without a fuss (and of course gets a cookie afterwards!!)
more pictures after the move! Nick has most of next week of to spend time with Tink and to unpack, so the move won't be as stressful on her as it could be. Plus more attention than usual (if thats possible) and lots of treats and walks : )

More Things We Love About Tinker

Things we love about Tinker
  • How excited she was when she came in from the rain this morning. I thought she was going to do a little BT 350!!!
  • How cute her little face looks when she wants to get up into bed with us.
  • The Tinker shake when she hits the top of the stairs on her way inside
  • Her tail moves!!!!! I saw it wiggle yesterday when she was excited. Needless to say I was VERY excited!!!
  • How perfectly she fits in the crook of our arms
  • Her pencil blaze and the little bit of white on each of her feet
  • How anything soft can be her bed
  • Her endless ability for snuggle time
  • Big snores just before she really falls asleep
  • Her cute little gait and confidence as we walk outside
  • How much she likes cheese!

I had a little old lady stop me and tink on one of our walks yesterday. She let me know her daughter adopted an older Boston and she was so excited to share and learn information about our boston. Is she cuddly? Does she snore? And she shared all kinds of information about her daughter's BT (and i forget his name...). But it was cute. It's nice having a little boston cause then people don't mistake them for boxers or pits (but i'm sure pugs : )

Just a relaxing afternoon.... Tink and I are cuddling the afternoon away with Nick....

BEAUTIFUL WEATHER!!

It feels like spring is finally here!!!! The weather is wonderful so Tink, Nick, and I are making the most of it with long walks to the park. Its so nice to see her outside without her coat on!!!! I love the brindle markings!! (before we picked her up, i analized the one face shot that we had and managed to find some brindle markings on the top of her shoulder.... i was so excited that she might be brindle!!! and she is!!)

Tinker really enjoyed Nick being home wednesday and thursday and in fact bonded quite nicely with him (she wanted to snuggle with him last night for a little bit over me! sniff sniff). So its nice to see her getting excited when he's around too. We're becoming a real family and she is becoming a family dog!!!

She went through a phase where she wasn't eating real well, but that seems to have passed. She appears to like her food very specific-- not too much water mixed in with the little wet food. Please just enough so the wet food coats the kibble. Haha, we love this girl.

Well, it finally looks like we're moving in the apartment. (next sunday (3/19) afternoon at 2pm... we can use the help if you're in the area!) Poor Tinker wasn't sure what was going on and I'm not sure if she ever lived with a "family" that dumped her when they moved or not, so i gave her a marrow bone to eat in the same room we were doing most of the packing... needless to say it calmed her down a bit and she forgot all about the boxes.

AND exciting news!! I left Tinker for about 45 minutes today and when i came back she had not peed in her crate!! talk about progress!!!!

Thats the deal for now. A beautiful day for lots of walking!

Getting chores done.

So for the past 2 days I (Nick) have been home sick. That meant that Miss Tink was not in her crate all day long like most days which I'm fairly certian that she enjoyed. So while I was laying around all day she took it upon herself to get some stuff done around the apartment.

She cleaned the bathtub so mommy could take a bubble bath.

She fluffed the pillows so we could sleep better at night
(I think that's Vicki's pillow)

She folded laundry.

She also changed the sheets on the bed.

Overall I'm pretty happy with what she was able to get done. I think it's pretty safe to say that's impressive for a little blind dog, but afterall she is the best dog in the world.

a few realizations

So i'm walking the dog after food shopping on a saturday afternoon and a few things about my life begin to hit me/sink in. First of all, i'm married and living in PA (not so much a shock, but it still hits every now and again). Then i realize, i have finished my schooling and not only have a full time job, but one in my field... I went to school for MUSIC THERAPY and i am a MUSIC THERAPIST. I also have a dog which must me that Nick, Tink and I are a family. I think the real kicker is that we're moving in two weeks and i am procrastinating hard-core on packing... i just don't want to.... So much in my life has "gone the way it should" that some times its overwhelming, like walking my dog. I could easily pass for a college student in my jeans and college hoodie walking the dog... but i'm not... I feel so old and yet so young at the same time... birthday in a few weeks... i always put birthdays on the calendar (even my own) and when i saw it will be my 23rd I thought "this must be someone else's Birthday" It didn't even register that I am another year older.

Sigh, maybe i'm not expressing myself how i want to be. I am so happy with life; God has truly been blessing us. I have not visited my family since Christmas and its starting to weigh on me. Being daddy's little girl curled up on his lap with a dog or two doesn't seem like such a bad idea... it never was ; )

So thats my ramble... tink is contentedly chewing on something edible. My little snuggle muffin and I did manage to get up by 9 this saturday morning. We're doing laundry now...she's supervising to make sure i don't mix the colors and the whites : )

Tinker and her crate

Hello all, take note, its 2 days in a row : )

ok, so Tink stays in her crate for a good portion of the day. She has her bed like thing in the back (a crate shammy thing or a blanket over a towel or something) and papers in the front because she pees no matter what and I want her to not have to sit in it all day. We have a water bowl, but she almost always knocks it over. So now we have the water bottle that she won't drink from. She not only pees on the papers but more often than not she still pees on her bedding. Any one know how to curb her of that? I dont mind washing it, i just don't like that she sits in it all day. We've been working on the whole, don't make a big deal out of her when we leave or come back. Just wondering... (i know, i am soliciting advice.... give at your own will : ) Maybe she's just destined to smell like pee forever. I don't call her Princess Pee for nothing!

She's my little snuggle muffin... it gets harder and harder to put her in her bed at night... I love my snuggle time with her... which is why i love the weekends!!

I've been "preparing" her for Easter weekend already!!! We have long chats about how she needs to be nice to aunty aby because if it weren't for aby she wouldn't be here with us today! and we talk about how she doesn't need to like the dogs, she just needs to tolerate them and not scratch any body's eyes out. I dont foresee the one eyed dog coming into vogue any time soon....

Speaking of one eyed dogs... on the WOOF! board that i am addicted to (well notoriously stalk) someone had their dogs picture stolen and used to sell puppymill dogs so a big thing about watermarks and protecting your photos when around... i was trying to figure out how to watermark my photos too and then i realized a dog with one eye is pretty well marked already. I dont think people will be trying to sell other dogs with Tinks pics as perfect and beautiful as she is to us. Well, I found it humorous anyways : )

Tink sends her love to everyone... she hasn't met too many new people recently and is waiting to meet her grandparents!!!

A new post (shock!)

Yes Tinker is alive and doing well despite my dirth of recent posts. She's been somewhat finicking about eating meals (some days its dinner others its breakfast)... some coaxing usually helps, its just odd that meals are sometimes an issue. She's getting into the routine of work and understanding the process better and I think she thinks that if she doesn't eat breakfast the maybe we wont leave? who knows, and besides dogs only live in the moment so she can't plan 15 minutes into the future...
It makes me sad as i leave watching her so earnestly at the top of the stairs behind the gate.
She is so fun to watch when she gets so excited... we come in from a walk and she is so excited i know she would play if she knew how! She jumps around and acts like she wants to play, but as soon as you touch her in any way, she stops! One step at a time!

This happened a few weeks ago, but it was so cute and I meant to tell it. We were filling a big 1 gallon zip-lock bag with old mother hubbard cookies we had just bought (it was the first thing nick officially bought tinker) and as we were filling the bag she could smell them. Well she came on over and helped herself to the first cookie she could grab from the bag. It was so cute to watch her grab it and run. Any other dog and i might have said "hey! come back here you little thief!" But i was so tickled that she did it, we just sat their laughing. The little girl had shown another side of her personality!

We generally take her for 3 long walks per day (well long by our standards is a good 20-25 minutes in the cold--depends how much schnootzing she does). In the summer the time will lengthen i'm sure. Its so nice being outside in God's beautiful nature with her. Even in the bad weather its a blessing to take her out. She's our little Dogter and the walks are a good bonding time.

Oh so many little things to write about her that make me smile... the way she nearly knocks herself over as she shakes and it travels down her body right through her back legs.... The way she puts her front paws on the bed looking for some snuggle time... the way she puts her little head on my arm or gives her wonderful doggie kisses or drops to the ground the instant you get home for a good old belly rub.... sigh... Tinker you are wonderful.... whatever did we do before you?
